Thailand Targets Singapore and Four Other Markets by 2027
Thailand plans to attract more visitors from five key Asian markets by 2027, focusing on culture, wellness, and food.
Thailand's Tourism Strategy for Key Asian Markets
In an ambitious move, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has announced plans to boost inbound tourism by targeting five significant Asian markets as part of its strategy for the fiscal year 2027. The focus will be on wellness, culinary delights, and the rich tapestry of Thai culture.
Targeted Growth and Market Focus
The authority aims to achieve a growth rate of 6.2% in tourism revenue from ASEAN nations, alongside a projected increase of 4.3% in visitor numbers from these countries.
- Vietnam: Families and shopping
- Malaysia: Food, shopping, and travel to secondary cities
- Indonesia: Wellness and Muslim-friendly tourism
- Singapore: Affluent travelers seeking quality experiences
- Taiwan: Thai cuisine and culinary tourism
This strategy aligns with policies set forth by Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun, aiming to integrate the tourism, culture, and commerce sectors to leverage events such as the upcoming World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in 2026.
Cultural and Economic Aspirations
Suphajee’s vision is to convert Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 Annual Meetings into long-term economic benefits. The goal is to foster connections between visitors and local Thai products, thereby enhancing the country's cultural influence, or soft power.
To maximize the impact of international gatherings, the authority is promoting a range of dedicated tourism routes and travel programs designed to encourage extended stays and higher spending. Travelers will be encouraged to explore not just Bangkok, but also popular destinations like Pattaya, Hua Hin, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
Wellness and Relaxation Opportunities
The promotional campaign, themed "Healing Is The New Luxury," emphasizes wellness and relaxation among travelers. Signature offerings include therapies inspired by Thai traditions, cultural exhibitions, and expansive culinary experiences that showcase Thailand's rich heritage.
Additionally, the initiative includes a vibrant cultural arts program featuring traditional Thai dramas and performances:
- Nora dance drama
- Nang Yai shadow puppetry
- Hun Lakhon Lek puppet theatre
- Khon masked dance drama
One notable highlight is the sculpture, Tao Tanu (Green Turtle), created from recycled materials in partnership with the TAT X Wishulada initiative, underlining the commitment to sustainability.
Highlighting Local and Cultural Experiences
The Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition and the Amazing Thailand Grand Fashion Show will further that effort, showcasing stunning designs from over 100 international designers who embellish Thai silk. These activities aim to connect visitors to unique local products and production hubs, enriching their travel experience.
The Tourism Authority's strategic outreach not only aims to boost economic benefits for local communities but also to extend marketing avenues for Thai businesses beyond the confines of international meetings.
This holistic approach is designed to elevate Thailand’s position as a premier destination for not only conventional tourism but also for business conferences and cultural exchanges.
