What personal data Blockchain Data Wiki collects, why, how long it is kept, who it is shared with, and the rights you have over it.
Effective 15 September 2026
This policy explains what personal data Blockchain Data Wiki (“we”, “us”) collects when you use blockchaindatawiki.com, why we collect it, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
1. Data we collect
1.1 Data you give us
- Correspondence. If you email us or submit a form, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include in it.
- Subscription details. If you sign up for updates, we collect the email address you provide.
1.2 Data collected automatically
- Technical and usage data. Your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, referring page, the pages you view, and the date and time of each request. This is generated by your browser as part of making the request and is recorded in our server logs.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See section 4 and our Cookie Policy.
1.3 Data we do not collect
We do not ask for, and do not want, your name, postal address, date of birth, government identifiers, payment card details, wallet private keys, seed phrases or exchange credentials. No member of our staff will ever ask you for a private key or seed phrase. Anyone who does is attempting to defraud you.
2. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| Purpose | Data used | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Serving the website and keeping it available | Technical and usage data | Legitimate interests — operating the service you requested |
| Security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults | Technical and usage data | Legitimate interests — protecting the service and its readers |
| Understanding which articles are read | Aggregated usage data, analytics cookies | Consent, where cookies require it |
| Replying to your correspondence | Correspondence data | Legitimate interests — answering an enquiry you initiated |
| Sending updates you asked for | Email address | Consent, withdrawable at any time |
| Meeting legal obligations | As required | Legal obligation |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether those interests are overridden by your rights, and we have limited what we collect accordingly.
3. What we do not do with it
We do not sell personal data. We do not rent, trade or otherwise make it available to third parties for their own marketing. We do not use it to build advertising profiles of you, and we do not attempt to identify individual readers from analytics data.
4. Cookies
Strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to function and are set without consent because the site cannot be delivered without them. Analytics and preference cookies are set only where you have consented, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. Full detail, including categories and retention, is in our Cookie Policy.
5. Sharing
We share personal data only with:
- Service providers acting on our instructions — hosting, content delivery, email delivery, analytics and security. They may process data only for the purposes we specify and are bound by contract.
- Professional advisers, where necessary and under a duty of confidence.
- Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose. Where we are permitted to tell you about such a request, we will.
- A successor entity, if the publication is sold or merged. You will be told before your data becomes subject to a different policy.
6. International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or European Economic Area, transfers are made under an adequacy decision or under Standard Contractual Clauses together with any supplementary measures required. You may request details of the safeguards applied.
7. Retention
- Server logs: up to 90 days, then deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months in aggregated form.
- Correspondence: up to 24 months after the matter is closed, unless a longer period is needed for a legal claim.
- Subscription email addresses: until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so that we do not contact you again in error.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the data we hold about you; have it corrected; have it deleted; restrict or object to processing, including profiling; receive it in a portable form; withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out; and complain to a supervisory authority.
If you are in California, you additionally have the right to know the categories of personal information collected, disclosed or sold, the right to deletion, the right to correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising a right. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
To exercise any right, write to [email protected]. We respond within one month, extendable by two further months for complex requests, and we will tell you if an extension applies. We may ask for information to confirm that the request comes from you. We do not charge a fee unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
9. Children
This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and the principle of least privilege for anyone who can reach reader data. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. Where a breach is likely to result in a high risk to your rights, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will give prominent notice on the site before it takes effect.
12. Contact
Questions, requests and complaints: [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
