Strive Expands Bitcoin Holdings to $3.3 Billion with Recent Purchase
Strive increases its Bitcoin stash to over $3.3 billion, solidifying its position among top public holders.
Strive, a Dallas-based investment company co-founded by Vivek Ramaswamy, has recently enhanced its Bitcoin reserves by acquiring an additional 124 BTC. This latest addition brings its total Bitcoin holdings to 43,124 coins, valued at approximately $3.3 billion. This figure represents around 0.2% of the total 21 million Bitcoins that will ever be minted.
Competitive Landscape Among Publicly Traded Bitcoin Firms
With this latest purchase, Strive ranks fourth among publicly traded companies in terms of Bitcoin holdings. Currently, it trails behind Twenty One Capital, which has 43,514 BTC, and Metaplanet, holding 44,000 BTC, according to data from Bitcoin Treasuries. The valuation gap to these companies amounts to about $30 million and $67 million respectively, based on Bitcoin’s current price of approximately $77,000.
Strive's Strategy and Recent Financial Moves
As a Bitcoin treasury company, Strive aims to give investors exposure to Bitcoin through its stock. This approach, popularized by industry figure Michael Saylor in 2020, has been embraced by several firms, including Strive. As of late October, Strive's average purchase price per Bitcoin stood at $87,785, translating to a total expenditure of around $3.8 billion. However, given Bitcoin's fluctuating value, their holdings are currently worth slightly less than what they initially paid.
Disclosed in an SEC filing, this latest purchase reflects transactions that took place from October 24 to October 30. CEO Matt Cole announced that the company spent roughly $10 million on these additional Bitcoins, averaging around $80,526 per coin after fees.
Funding and Capital Management
Most of the money for this purchase came from Strive's cash reserves, which dropped from $504.4 million to $490.4 million over the past week. Additionally, for the first time, Strive has raised capital by offering shares of a new preferred stock known as SATS. Cole noted that this contributed to their fundraising efforts, which included selling 7 million SATS shares at $90 each, totaling approximately $630 million. Each SATS share promises a fixed annual dividend of 15%, paid daily starting from November 9.
On October 26, Strive also launched an at-the-market program, allowing for the sale of up to $1 billion worth of SATS shares in smaller increments at prevailing prices. The company intends to cover the upcoming dividend payments primarily through ongoing capital raising efforts, including further share sales. Importantly, Strive reported having no debts as of October 23 and has allocated 18 months’ worth of dividend payments into a reserve.
Financial Health Indicators
Assessing Strive's fiscal strength, the ratio of its outstanding obligations (from the preferred stock and other debts) relative to the value of its Bitcoin reserves stands at 62.7%. This indicates that for every $100 worth of Bitcoin, the company has approximately $62.70 in obligations to cover.
As Strive continues to expand its Bitcoin holdings, it solidifies its footprint in the cryptocurrency space, making it a key player among public companies trading in the digital asset market.
