DeFi Development Increases SOL Holdings and Dividend Rate
DeFi Development Corp. boosts its Solana treasury and raises dividend rates to attract investors.
DeFi Development Corp. (NASDAQ: $DFDV) recently announced a significant increase in its treasury holdings of Solana (CRYPTO: $SOL) by acquiring an additional 3,983 SOL over the past week. This brings the company’s total Solana assets to approximately 2,590,266 SOL. The news comes just days ahead of the anticipated Alpenglow upgrade, which aims to enhance Solana’s consensus protocol.
Alpenglow Upgrade Enhancements
The upcoming Alpenglow upgrade is expected to vastly improve transaction finality on the Solana blockchain, reducing the confirmation time from around 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. This rapid processing capability could create a user experience similar to traditional credit card transactions while still benefiting from the continuous settlement features typical of decentralized networks. DeFi Development believes that as tokenized equities and other real-world assets become more common on the blockchain, the enhanced speed offered by this upgrade will become increasingly important.
Revised Dividend Rate for Investors
In another significant announcement, DeFi Development Corp. is raising the dividend rate on its Variable Rate Series C Perpetual Preferred Stock, commonly referred to as CHAD, from 13% to 14%, effective November 2. This adjustment means that for CHAD shares, which have a stated amount of $10, shareholders can expect an annual payout of $1.40 per share, marking a 7.7% increase from the previous rate. Importantly, the dividends are cumulative and will be payable on each business day, contingent on the board’s declaration.
CEO's Perspective on Growth and Treasury Strategy
Joseph Onorati, the CEO of DeFi Development Corp., positioned the dividend increase as not only an attractive offering for income investors but also as a strategic move to bolster the company’s treasury. He expressed confidence that Solana is entering a pivotal growth phase and that the higher dividend rate comes at a potentially advantageous time, ahead of what he anticipates could be a substantial bull market for SOL. The aim is to enhance the appeal of CHAD for income-driven investors while allowing the company to continue accumulating SOL for its common shareholders.
DeFi Development prides itself on being the first publicly traded company in the U.S. with a treasury strategy focused on the accumulation and compounding of SOL. With a commitment to staking its assets and operating its own validator infrastructure, it generates rewards and fees through delegated staking. Additionally, the company leverages an AI-driven platform providing software subscriptions for professionals in commercial real estate.
As of now, shares of DeFi Development Corp. (NASDAQ: DFDV) are trading at approximately $3.77.
