Circle highlights over 175 institutions backing its Payments Network after winning bronze in the Payments category at Money20/20.

Circle Payments Network Gains Recognition and Expands Reach

Circle has announced that its Circle Payments Network (CPN) is supported by over 175 financial institutions, following a bronze win in the Payments category at the prestigious Money20/20 Money Awards.

A Growing Network

The CPN has seen substantial growth. Circle's latest disclosure indicated a significant leap, noting a 29% increase in the number of enrolled institutions since the previous quarter. Though it reported 175 financial institutions enrolled by the end of June, the exact number actively processing payments remained unspecified.

Transaction Volume and Achievements

As of the second quarter of 2026, CPN reported an impressive annualized transaction volume of $14.7 billion. This figure reflects a robust 76% growth compared to the previous quarter's performance. It’s important to clarify that this annualized figure illustrates the projected yearly transaction pace rather than the total transactions settled during the quarter.

In addition to the CPN's accomplishments, Circle reported a staggering $14.8 trillion in on-chain transactions involving its USDC stablecoin during the same quarter, with $73.3 billion of USDC in circulation by the quarter's end.

Partnerships and Innovations

Circle has also been strengthening its global reach by partnering with various organizations. For instance, it has collaborated with Nium to enable USDC settlements across a payout infrastructure that spans more than 190 countries, allowing financial institutions to process transactions in local currencies seamlessly.

Enhanced Payment Solutions

In a bid to streamline operations for banks, payment providers, and fintech firms, Circle launched its CPN Managed Payments service. This initiative enables participants to use stablecoin settlements without the need to manage digital assets directly. Circle oversees aspects like USDC minting and burning, compliance controls, and payment orchestration.

The service is designed to address various challenges, including custody complexities, compliance requirements, and operational risks. Through partnerships with companies such as Veem, Circle outlines an efficient pathway for firms to adopt stablecoin settlement solutions.

Latest Developments in Payment Innovations

Recent news from the payment industry reveals exciting collaborations aimed at enhancing user experiences. On October 19, Mesh announced a partnership with Visa to allow users to spend their cryptocurrency and stablecoin balances from participating wallets at over 175 million merchant locations worldwide. This integration promises to simplify transactions at both physical and online stores without requiring merchants to alter their existing systems.

Mastercard's New Offering

In a parallel development, Mastercard introduced its Stablecoin Security service at Money20/20 USA, enlisting Borderless.xyz and Keyrails as initial partners. This new tool uses payment intelligence and blockchain analytics to assess fraud risk and other financial crimes before transactions are executed. Set to launch in North America, the service underscores Mastercard's commitment to enhancing payment security.

As financial transactions evolve, partnerships like those forged by Circle, Visa, and Mastercard demonstrate the ongoing integration of traditional finance with digital currencies. As the landscape continues to shift, these institutions are playing a pivotal role in shaping a more interconnected financial ecosystem.
