CEO Predicts Unprecedented Bitcoin Adoption by Banks Ahead
Phong Le anticipates a landmark year for Bitcoin banking adoption, driven by various key factors.
Phong Le, CEO of Strategy, envisions a transformative year ahead for Bitcoin in the banking sector. He believes that the next 12 months will witness an unparalleled leap in the adoption of Bitcoin by banks.
Forces Fueling Bitcoin Adoption
In a recent post on X, Le identified several factors contributing to this anticipated surge. He highlighted seven primary catalysts:
- Monetary inflation
- Regulatory clarity
- Increasing customer demand
- Technological modernization
- Agentic AI
- Fear of missing out (FOMO)
- Bank survival strategies
Growth in Bitcoin Banking Adoption Index
Le's statement comes on the heels of Strategy's update released on October 13. The Bitcoin Banking Adoption Index, a measure of how banks are integrating Bitcoin into their services, has risen to 34% in the third quarter of 2026. Despite this growth, Strategy notes that the adoption phase is still in its early stages.
Strategy itself is recognized as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, reinforcing its weight in the industry.
Leading Banks in Bitcoin Adoption
The latest data reveals that Fidelity leads the way with a significant 77% adoption rate among its banking services. Following closely are:
- JPMorgan Chase at 47%
- BNY Mellon at 46%
- Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley both at 45%
On the other hand, banks in Europe and Asia are lagging behind, with Barclays at 30%, Deutsche Bank at 27%, and Japan's MUFG at just 18%.
This adoption growth can largely be attributed to broader access to Bitcoin-related services, including funds, custody solutions, and Bitcoin-backed loans. Additionally, advancements in stablecoins and tokenization are playing a significant role.
The Role of AI in Banking
In discussing the interplay of technology and finance, Le referenced insights from Strategy's co-founder, Michael Saylor. Saylor believes that artificial intelligence will increasingly impact traditional labor-driven stocks.
“AI is going to demonetize a lot of equities based on labor and talent. Capital investors are going to look for things that the robots can't make more of,”
Le expressed optimism regarding the ongoing trend of growing Bitcoin adoption among corporations, institutions, banks, and even nation-states. This, he argues, bolsters confidence in Bitcoin's future.
Looking Ahead
While Le's predictions offer a hopeful glimpse into the accelerating integration of Bitcoin into mainstream finance, it’s essential to approach these forecasts with caution. The key question remains: will banks in Europe and Asia bridge the adoption gap and keep pace with their counterparts in the U.S. over the coming year?
As we move further into 2026, the landscape of banking and cryptocurrency will continue to evolve, possibly reshaping financial services as we know them.
