Introducing AntiScam Pango: Your Personal Scam-Detection App

  • 3 min read

Meet AntiScam Pango, a new app that helps users identify potential scams through AI-enhanced messaging analysis.

Overview of AntiScam Pango

A new mobile application named AntiScam Pango has been launched, aiming to assist users in recognizing potential scams by analyzing conversations in real-time. The app identifies suspicious messages, ensuring users can take action before falling prey to deceit.

How the App Works

Utilizing advanced artificial intelligence technology, AntiScam Pango monitors communication channels such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and SMS. Through careful message analysis, the app flags conversations that appear dubious, providing immediate warnings to users.

This innovative app was introduced during the GovTech STACK Conference 2026, held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre on November 4. The event featured remarks from acting Minister for Manpower, Jasmin Lau, who highlighted the importance of protecting personal privacy while combating scams.

Development and Privacy Features

Developed collaboratively by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) and Google DeepMind, AntiScam Pango ensures user confidentiality. Messages are processed directly on the user’s device, minimizing the risk of personal data exposure. In cases where a message is flagged, the app provides reasoning behind its alert, elucidating the red flags associated with potential scams.

Lau noted that this feature is particularly beneficial for users to familiarize themselves with common social engineering tactics used by scammers. Users retain complete control over their messages, deciding whether to continue communication, report suspicious contacts, or verify the sender's information independently.

Key Features and Availability

The AntiScam Pango app is currently in beta, available for Android devices via the Google Play Store. The app functions discreetly in the background once permissions are granted. While it flags suspicious conversations, it does not automatically delete or block messages, prioritizing user choices.

According to GovTech, external servers do not receive message content unless a user opts to report it. This secure approach ensures that users' conversations remain private and protected from outside access.

AI Training and Collaboration

The AI underpinning AntiScam Pango was trained using a vast array of scam patterns and scenarios, drawing from data sources like ScamShield, created by GovTech and its partners. This existing application successfully blocks calls from known scam numbers while also assessing messages that users report as potentially fraudulent.

Mark Chen, GovTech’s director of trust and safety, expressed that the integration of AntiScam Pango with ScamShield could further enhance user protections. However, specifics regarding this integration remain unspecified.

Future Developments

Currently available solely on Android due to its permission structure, GovTech is actively investigating possibilities to expand AntiScam Pango’s availability across other platforms, including Apple’s iOS. The goal remains to maintain high privacy standards while providing users with effective protection against scams.

As advancements continue in scam detection technology, GovTech is keen to ensure that users can engage in their messaging without the constant worry of malicious intentions lurking in their conversations.
