X will ban creators from its revenue-sharing program for 90 days if they publish AI-generated footage of armed conflict without a clear disclosure that the content was produced using artificial intelligence. The platform’s head of product, Nikita Bier, said the policy is intended to protect the “authenticity of content on Timeline” during wartime, when misleading media can spread rapidly. “During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground,” Bier wrote, adding that modern AI makes it easy to create deceptive material.
The change adds a financial penalty to X’s moderation toolkit by tying monetization eligibility to whether AI-generated conflict videos are properly labeled. Under the update, creators who post AI-produced footage of armed conflict must clearly state it was generated with AI; failing to do so can trigger a 90-day suspension from the platform’s creator revenue program.
Enforcement may be prompted by Community Notes flags or by automated signals such as metadata and other indicators produced by generative AI tools. Accounts that repeatedly share undisclosed AI conflict videos could face permanent removal from X’s revenue-sharing program. X emphasized the policy targets videos depicting armed clashes and does not constitute a broader ban on AI-generated content across the platform.
The announcement arrives as tensions in the Middle East remain a focal point of online discussion. On Feb. 28, the United States and Israel conducted joint airstrikes on Iran; CoinGecko reported that Bitcoin briefly dipped to about $63,000 before recovering to trade near $70,000. AI is already being used in contemporary military contexts: on March 1 the U.S. military reportedly employed Anthropic’s Claude AI model to assist with intelligence analysis and targeting related to the Iran strikes.
