Solana has shortened its blockchain slot time to 350 milliseconds, the first such reduction since the network launched, the Solana Foundation’s vice president of technology, Jacob Creech, said. Creech posted on X: ‘We’re in a new era of 350ms. Next stop, 300ms.’
At the time of reporting, average slot times measured about 360 ms, down from the network’s original 400 ms target according to the Solana slot time explorer. In June, the Solana Foundation outlined a plan to gradually cut slot times from 400 ms to 200 ms to reduce latency and speed up confirmations; three additional 50 ms reductions are planned as part of that roadmap.
All four reductions are slated for mainnet activation in Agave v4.2, a validator client developed by Anza, though the deployment schedule is tentative. The proposal that implements the shorter slot times, SIMD-0525, was approved and merged on May 14.
Cointelegraph reports these changes as part of Solana’s broader performance upgrades and notes that it adheres to its editorial policy; readers are encouraged to verify information independently.
