Anthropic has formed a corporate political action committee, filing with the Federal Election Commission to create “AnthroPAC” as it increases participation in electoral and policy debates over artificial intelligence.
The PAC is structured as a connected, employee-funded separate segregated fund that will collect voluntary contributions from staff. The FEC filing lists Anthropic as the connected organization and registers the committee as a lobbyist-affiliated PAC. Under U.S. campaign finance rules, individual contributions are limited to $5,000 per candidate per election and must be disclosed in public filings.
Anthropic says the PAC is expected to back candidates from both major parties, though some observers have questioned how evenly the donations will be distributed as the company seeks to influence AI policy.
The announcement comes amid growing tensions between Anthropic and the Pentagon. In February, the Department of Defense designated the company a supply-chain risk after Anthropic objected to using its models for fully autonomous weapons and mass surveillance applications. Anthropic has sued to block the designation, arguing it constitutes retaliation for a protected viewpoint. A federal judge in California temporarily enjoined the designation and paused related restrictions while the dispute proceeds.
Anthropic has already been active in political funding this cycle, including a reported $20 million contribution to Public First Action, an organization focused on AI safety and policy issues.
Separately, Anthropic is advancing its infrastructure needs as demand for large-scale compute grows. Google is preparing to support a multibillion-dollar data center project in Texas leased to Anthropic and operated by Nexus Data Centers. The initial phase of the project could exceed $5 billion, with Google expected to provide construction loans while banks compete to arrange additional financing.
