KUALA LUMPUR — Hata, Malaysia’s only exchange holding dual licenses for digital assets, has closed an US$8 million (about RM31.6 million) Series A financing led by Bybit, alongside several prominent global family offices. The capital round establishes a deeper strategic partnership with Bybit that goes beyond funding and aims to accelerate the growth of Malaysia’s regulated digital asset ecosystem.
Ben Zhou, Co‑founder and CEO of Bybit, said the investment reflects the company’s view of Malaysia as a key market with high digital engagement and strong long‑term potential for crypto adoption. He noted that Hata’s local market leadership, combined with Bybit’s technology and product capabilities, will help serve Malaysian investors through a compliant, regulated platform and expand tokenised real‑world asset opportunities.
Bybit had previously participated in Hata’s US$4.2 million seed round; the Series A strengthens that relationship and introduces closer strategic collaboration. The round also included participation from family offices focused on Southeast Asian technology and financial markets.
Hata plans to allocate the proceeds to three priorities: improving platform liquidity, accelerating user growth through marketing and ecosystem initiatives, and co‑developing new digital asset products tailored for Malaysian customers together with Bybit.
David Low, CEO of Hata, described the funding and partnership as a validation of the company’s approach to building a regulated, compliance‑first exchange that prioritises investor protection. He said the collaboration will combine Hata’s regulated local infrastructure with Bybit’s global product and technology expertise to expand services available to Malaysian users.
