Google Cloud and Liberty Global have signed a five-year strategic partnership to bring Google’s AI and cloud technology into Liberty Global’s European telecom and TV operations, Reuters reports. The collaboration will roll out Google’s Gemini models and cloud tools across Liberty Global’s networks, which serve roughly 80 million fixed and mobile connections.
Liberty Global says the deal is intended to lower operating costs, modernize network infrastructure, and introduce smarter consumer-facing features. Expected uses include AI-powered search and content discovery on the Horizon TV platform, more responsive customer support, and other services that leverage generative and cloud-based AI capabilities.
The agreement also expands retail offerings: Liberty Global’s local operating units will stock more Google hardware, such as smartphones, wearables, and smart home devices, giving customers broader access to Google’s consumer ecosystem.
The announcement underscores a wider industry trend of telecom operators adopting AI to boost network efficiency, improve user experience, and pursue new revenue streams. Observers will be watching how quickly the partners deploy Gemini-based tools and the practical benefits for subscribers and network operations.
